A Press Release
To go along with our brochures I have been talking about, I have been sending the below e-mail to people in Bozeman to try and spark interested and comments for Cafe Evoke. I have sent it to a few Bozeman bloggers to put on their site and I hope to gain some results. I have a friend at the local paper in town and I am going to try and set something up with him next week and talk about getting this letter printed as a press release in hopes that it will reach more people in the North East Neighborhood.
The goal is to get feedback. We are a community coffee and art house and we need the input from the community. The email is below. If you are a Bozeman reader and have comments or questions (or would be interested in posting this on your blog!), let me know. My name is Jason Duncan and my wife and I are hoping to open Cafe Evoke, an art and coffee house, in the North East Neighborhood. Our art and coffee house is dedicated to building community on both a local and global scale. We are planning to serve Fair Trade and organic coffees and teas and organic foods whenever possible.
Our goal is to provide a place for people to come, sip, and talk. A place to build relationships with each other and also learn about issues that are affecting our friends in coffee producing countries including Ethiopia, Kenya, and Guatemala. We plan to display the work of local artists, bring in singer songwriters, writers, poets, play writes, videographers and others to share their passions.
We have been in contact with One.org who wants to host Bozeman meetings at Cafe Evoke. We plan to host Fair Trade seminars and do our best to not only serve great coffee but to educate on the passionate journey this product takes from the bean to the cup.
In an effort to be a community coffee and art house from the beginning, we want to know what the people in this community think about our ideas. We have dreams of providing a place for people to just be from 6:00 am to Midnight. We desire Cafe Evoke to be an alternative to the bar scene and think it will be a great place to "work together to create community."
It seems that we all agree: by working together, we can make a difference.
We are looking for a location in the building on Wallace and Peach and also in the new Freight Building that is going up in March. I would love to get your feedback, ideas, concerns, and suggestions. We feel the values of this community are a great match for Cafe Evoke and we want to be a voice and meeting place for all.
Please feel free to email us at info@cafeevoke.com with your thoughts, suggestions, questions, and concerns. We want to make sure all have a voice in what goes on at Cafe Evoke. You may also call me at 406.599.1628. We want to know how you feel about our hours (6:00 am to Midnight) and what things you would like to see in a community art and coffee house that is dedicated to serving the best organic and fair coffee.
Thank you for taking the time to help.
Jason Duncan Cafe Evoke jason@cafeevoke.com I also hope to have the brochures completed and ready for press by the end of next week. The designer is working on them and I need to price out what it will take to get them printed, stamped, etc. I will get you updated.

post a commentMaking certain that you have adequate parking should be a major concern. Plan to be successful in your ambitions, and gauge what parking you need accordingly. Your business shouldn't foster any hardships for the community, such as noise; but having all parking in the neighborhood taken up for extended periods of time is a certain way to anger those who live around you.
I see two little typos in the release.
you say "hoping to opening" but it should be
"hoping to open"
The other typo is "We plan to display the work of local artist" - it should be artists (plural, not singular).
Thank you for the typo note. I have made the changes. I need to make sure that does not happen again.
My apologies!

Wulfgar,
Thank you for taking the time to respond to this post. I agree fully with you about the parking situations. We have been working with the city to make sure there is enough for our use. We do not want to put a strain on the streets and around people's homes and places of work.
We are going instate programs for people who use public transporation, ride bikes, and walk to Cafe Evoke in an effort to keep the auto activity low.
Thank you again for writing and taking the time out of your day to help us plan and make this as community focused as possible.

Jason -- this is a really solid message, and I have two suggestions.
1. Make it shorter. I would shoot to cut its total length in half. I know that's hard to do, especially when you've labored over language; but seriously, when it comes to email from people they don't know (or even people they do!) people have a SHORT attention span. You've got to keep it short.
2. Come up with a more defined action step. Simply saying 'let us know if you have feedback' is fine, and certainly some people will. But if you can come up with something more concrete -- a link they can click to get more info, or a specific question you want input on -- then I think more people will be more likely to follow through. I would also keep it to ONE action item -- too many and people get kinda confused & just close the email. If there's a single thing you're asking them do -- maybe a couple times, in different parts of the email -- then people will stay focused on it.
It's a great message and I love the idea of introducing yourself to the community.
Jason-
I like the brochure but I have to ask a couple of questions---
1. Who is the target market for these brochures and where do you plan on sending them.
2. When you send out the brochure, I think maybe a few directed questions with multiple answers may be in you best interest. Maybe if you will be sending some of these out in email an easy answer would be possible for you to get some analysis. The whole point is that sometimes people will not respond to general questions such as I would like your feedback.
I would be willing to help you on this and it is something that I have not had a chance to do in a while...
Let me know,
Chris P
Chris.
The target market is the North East Neighborhood. It is broad but we need to be in touch with as many as possible.
I think you are right about having specific actions. My main concern is the late hours and traffic. We are going to be handing these out so the brochure will have a tear out mailer (alreayd stamped) which I hope will allow people the option and chance to get it back in the mail.
I am always looking for help. I will let you know.
