World Refugee Day

Today is World Refugee Day as designated by the United Nations General Assembly. World Refugee Day has become an annual commemoration marked by a variety of events in over a hundred countries. This year, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will commemorate World Refugee Day for the sixth time with the inspirational theme: "Hope,” in order to draw the public’s attention to the millions of refugees world-wide who are forced to flee their homes. Building upon last year's resounding success, UNHCR has again partnered with well-respected institutions in Washington, DC, to broaden our outreach and encourage even greater public participation in the celebration of World Refugee Day. Together with the National Geographic Museum at Explorers Hall, UNHCR will sponsor refugee performances, exhibits, discussion panels, Congressional activities and a film screening. UNHCR will also continue working with Congressional partners to highlight key refugee issues on World Refugee Day. There are not any events in the Bozeman area, or Montana for that matter, and I was not able to get any of the materials together in time to have an event. If there is one in your area, take the time to go.
