We love when our purchases have longer arms than the norm. That is why we were happy to have the chance to bring in some awesome new coffee roasted by our friends at Batdorf and Bronson Coffee Roasters. Batdorf got their hands on a lot from Huehuetenango in Guatemala that is part of Grounds for Health - a organization bringing women's health care to coffee growing communities. Our mission is to bring effective cervical cancer screening and treatment to women in coffee-growing communities. We currently work in Mexico, Central America and Tanzania. We use an innovative, affordable and community-appropriate method called the Single Visit Screen & Treat Approach, which has been endorsed by the World Health Organization. Our work is made possible through partnerships with local coffee co-operatives, national and regional ministries of health, and specialty coffee companies. These partnerships have made it possible for us to bring better and sustainable health care to women in coffee-growing communities. (via GroundsforHealth.org) Batdorf and Bronson says that because of the 1500 meter altitude at which this coffee is grown and with the chilly weather, it matures slowly, resulting in a coffee with increased acidity and a balanced, heavy body. While many Huehue coffees tend to be on the fruity side, this one is extraordinarily sweet with a heavy dark chocolate and bing cherry flavors.
