Tonight: Coffee and Coats

So, Rethread is an Oklahoma City based “collective effort for neighbors by neighbors” to get clothes on the children that need them.  This is a group that is doing good you can see, right here in Oklahoma City.

At Cafe Evoke Catering, community is one of the main “stones” in the foundation we built the company on 6 years ago.  So, when the group came to us asking if we would set up a coffee bar at their Cold Is Hell event, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

This event is a team project between Rethread and Project OKC and is happening in two spots as the evening progresses: The first being at Convergence in the Plaze during Live on the Plaza and the second down in Bricktown.  Here is the schedule:

Project OKC (and DJ Neu) and RETHREAD are teaming up to get YOU involved in providing warm coats for families this winter. COLD IS HELL is our annual party + coat drive.

We’ll be at Bourbon Street Cafe on Friday October 08 with:

Hosted by comedian Ryan Drake and comedy duo The Buckners

8:30PM - 9:00PM: DJ Chips

9:00PM - 9:20PM Chris McCain

9:30PM - 9:50PM Ronnie Harris

10:00PM - 10:20PM Addlib

10:40PM - 11:00PM Aliens vs Robots

11:20PM - 11:40PM Conspiracy of Angels

Admission is a gently used coat or $10 that goes to the purchase of a new coat

The “pre party” of sorts is happening from 6:00p - 8:00p with coffee and food from our friends at Iguana Mexican Grill.  This will be a cool thing so if you are in the area, come out and have a cappuccino or macchiato. It’s Free!

Buy a Hat. Change a Life.

Krochet Kids International Have you seen or heard about what Krochet Kids is doing? No?? Ok, then, before I go on, here is a bit about them! Krochet Kids International’s mission is simple:

Krochet Kids international works in developing nations to empower impoverished communities to rise above poverty. Krochet Kids International is a non-profit organization founded upon Love. We believe that actions based in Love have power to change the world. Krochet Kids strives to change lives across the world using the tool of crocheting. The profits of our product are used to advance the movement of empowering suffering youth, families, and communities across the world by supplying basic nutritional needs, education, skills, self-dependency and employment.

Cool, huh? We at Cafe Evoke Catering wore their hats all winter long and loved every second of it. Each hat is signed by the hands that made it and you can jump online and meet the lady that is helping keep your head warm. We were first drawn to Krochet Kids hats while shopping with our friends at Shop Good. They tempted us with these awesome handmade head covers! We loved them! After buying a few and not wanting to take them off, we starting reading more about KKI and what all they were doing. We began watching the videos of the women who made them and hearing their stories of why they are doing this and what it all means. We then were hooked!

So, in an effort to not only keep the heads of our friends here in OKC and the United States warm but to also help our new friends in Northern Uganda survive, KKI is our first organization in our Evoke Communities Program! This is just one small way Cafe Evoke Catering is giving back. Keep checking back for more information on Evoke|Communities.

What, you think because it is now summer that KKI has nothing for you?  Oh man!  We’ll just leave you with this link: Buy a Hat. Change a Life.

Remember, all you have to do is plan an event, call Cafe Evoke Catering and remember to tell us to donate 5% to KKI for you!  That’s it!

Enjoy your day..

evoke communities

At Cafe Evoke Catering, the communities in which we operate are a huge deal.  Marriam Webster defines community as ”an interaction population of various kinds of individuals.” A lively community is not only important to us in a customer/business relationship but in a life relationship.

In order to do our part in giving back to this cycle of community, we have created what we are calling Evoke Communities - a program that we hope will spawn good further than the final cup of coffee we serve to our clients.  Quickly, here is how it works!

1. Plan an Event!Have a party and get all of your friends together! It can be your wedding or reception, birthday party, house warming party, business meeting, fundraiser, family or high school reunion, open house, grand opening or something totally different!

2. Call Cafe Evoke Catering!Pick up the phone and dial (405) 606-2200 or swing by our studio in OKC’s Historic Plaza District (1708 NW 16th Street) and talk to us about having a specialty coffee bar at your event!

3. Pick A Supported Group!Pick one of the groups that we are supporting

4. Tell us to donate 5% of your total!Pick the group, we’ll cut them a check for 5% of your total invoice! DONE!

Who are these groups we are working with?  Glad you asked!  Here is our list of groups.  In the coming days, we will write more about each of them and what they are doing to help either the local community of Oklahoma City or their impact on our global neighbors.

  • Krochet Kids International: Employing this generation through the creation of products, and educating the next through their sale. Krochet Kids international works in developing nations to empower impoverished communities to rise above poverty.
  • The Spero Project: The mission of Spero:Voice is to partner the resources of the local community with the needs of the refugee population, specifically through education, job training, social networking, and advocacy. We consider it our mandate to be a voice for these individuals.
  • Coffee Kids: Coffee Kids helps coffee-farming families improve their quality of life. We are always looking for new groups that fit the bill for us as community leaders.
  • While we understand that there are so many groups out there doing so many great things, we keep our lists to a small few. The three above our the first three that we are helping at this point. We will be added 1 or 2 more as we build Evoke Communities.  This 5% donation is a Thank You from Cafe Evoke Catering to you by giving back.

We appreciate all of you that have provided your guests with Oklahoma’s highest quality of specialty coffee at your event. We hope we have many more opportunities to serve you again soon.
