Featured Coffees: Week of Aug. 22nd, 2011

Back in the day, we had a plan to keep everyone updated on what coffees our bars where featuring at the time.  That lasted for just a month or so and it seems like something we should bring back.

Why?

Because we think we get to serve some pretty great coffee from several of what we think are the best coffee roasters around.  So, in light of that, each week, we will put out a post that will talk about the coffees we are using in case you have an event coming up or are just curious.

You can then click on the “Featured Coffees” link above and it will take you to the whole list!  Cool, huh?

Ok, so this past week, we have had 2 espressos and 1 for the pour over bar.  Here is what has been flowing:

Espresso: Espresso 228 - Elemental Coffee Roasters - Oklahoma City

This coffee is one that is almost always available on our bars.  It has that bright strawberry and cherry notes with a bit of chocolate.  So great.

Espresso: The Sermon Espresso - Verve Coffee Roasters - Santa Cruz

This espresso is full of burnt caramel, chocolate and apricot. It’s great with milk and has been super fun to play with.  This is the first time we have used it and have enjoyed every shot!

Brew Bar: Ethiopia Harfusa - Verve Coffee Roasters - Santa Cruz

This coffee has this great creamy lemon flavor and is full of sweetness.  We have brewed it via V60 and French Press.  It’s a Yirg and what’s not to like about that?

So, there you have it!  You can click on the blue links for each coffee and it will take you to the page from the roaster where you can buy the coffee and learn more.  If you have questions, let us know!

We will have a new post up on Monday to talk about what we have for next week.  Then, we will be on our “every Monday morning” schedule.

Have a great weekend and we hope to sip with you soon.

Water Ave Coffee

We have the awesome chance to serve you guys some great new coffees this week!  Our friends at Water Ave Coffee operate their “coffee factory” in SE Portland’s inner Eastside.

Water Ave Coffee

We brought in three different coffees with our first order from the guys.  Here is what we  have:

  • El Toro Espresso - Slight wood smoke, baker’s chocolate, dried cherry, green grape acidity
  • Guatemala San Pedro la Laguna - red-berry acidity shines in perfect balance with a caramel sweetness and ultra creamy mouth-feel
  • Brazil Chapadao de Ferro - Ruvaldo Delarisse grows this fantastic coffee inside an extinct volcano caldera. This volcano exhumed so many fertile minerals from the Earth’s core the entire region is called Chapadao De Ferro, or “Plateau of Iron.” Named after his daughter Francy, this micro-lot was processed pulped natural then patio sun dried. Our coffee from this unusual region is characterized by sweet nuts, candied chocolates, and a long wood-smoke finish.

We first met two of the overs of Water Ave Coffee Company while hanging with the crew at the American Barista and Coffee School in Portland 6 or so years ago. Matt and his dad Bruce run the place and we were pumped to hear that they were doing a roasting company/retail place as well.

We will have MUCH more about them as we go but we were just excited to finally get our first order.

Have a great Monday!

Weekly Coffee Report

This week you guys get to enjoy some more brew from Oklahoma’s own Elemental Coffee Roasters in the form of our espresso and pressed coffees.

On the bar: We are serving Espresso 228, best know for its bright vibrant fruit. This spro shines all by itself, but it makes for an interesting cappuccino as well.

Press Pots and Cold Brew: We have the all new Purusha, which is an Ethiopia Sidamo from Michicha. The coffee boasts flavors such as cherry, peach, honeysuckle, and chocolate. The beans are always changing with new farms and new crops to keep all of us coffee lovers from getting bored.

Enjoy it!

Weekly Coffee Report

We are firm believers in the fact that you can have too much of a good thing. This is why we like to rotate between several quality coffee roasters. Batdorf and Bronson is a roaster we have used since the beginning. Batdorf has been roasting tasty coffee since 1986 and striving for high levels of sustainability. They originally started roasting in Olympia Washington and now they also have a roastery in Atlanta Georgia to service the east coasters with fresh coffee.

This week we ordered two coffees from Batdorf and Bronson, Dancing Goats Blend and Organic Ethiopia Sidamo Shoye. Dancing Goats is Batdorf’s flagship espresso and quite delicious if I do say so myself. The cup offers a clean acidity and a heavy, nutty body. One can also find citrus fruits, fine chocolates, and caramelly spice. This espresso is big by itself and big in milk, and especially shines in a cappuccino.

Organic Ethiopia Sidamo Shoye is more than just a mouth full. This certified organic and fair-trade coffee from Sidamo comes from the Shoye coop, which is a part of the Sidamo union of coffee producers. The coffee is noted as being clean and sweet with hints of bergamot and anise. The finish is said to linger with exotic spice, more specifically frankincense.

It is always exciting to get a coffee order in, especially when you have some new beans to take for a ride. So we hope to see you guys and share these awesome coffees with some friends.

Featured Coffees

We wanted to introduce you to the “Featured Coffees” section of this blog!  We pride ourselves in the coffees that we source and also how we serve them to you and thought it was about time we provided a spot to talk about what coffees you will be drinking if your event happens to come this week!

Our plan is to write each Monday about the coffees we will be serving for the coming week.  We typically have the following:

1 Espresso

1 Decaf Espresso

2 Single Origin Coffees (which we use for press pots, vac pots and other brewing methods!)

If there are ever any coffees we write about on this blog that you want to try, you have two very good options!

1. Come by our offices at 1708 NW 16th Street and we can chat about coffee and drink some.  Trust us, we always love the opportunity to talk about coffee and take a few sips!  We suggest calling first to be sure someone is here.  When things get busy, we tend to be running all over the place.

2. Email us! You can head over to www.CafeEvoke.com and send us an email. We’d be happy to tell you where to get it or get we do not stock some. For the most part, however, we do have enough to pour you off a few ounces.  If email isn’t your thing, no worries.  We have a phone and know how to use it.  Give us a call - (405) 606-2200.

We bring in coffee from several different roasters from all over the place so be sure you check back here often for information about where and who we are featuring.

Thanks for reading!  Enjoy your day.
